Description of specal courses and warm-ups
|
Is swing music predictable?
Do you know the difference between blues and swing? Does the music have a structure that I could use for my danci7ng? How to make a choreography? Have you ever wondered why some dancers can dance to every song as if they know them by heart?
We will try to answer all of these questions in a practical workshop. We hope to show and teach you how to dance better on the music, and thus you will enjoy social dancing and jam sessions even more.

Counterbalance
In this special class we discover the possibilities of movements that two human body can do together. We will see how the energy of one’s body transmits to another body, and how this energy is received and how to give it back. This class is not is not about sequences of steps, rather about the movements that these impulses trigger. In this special class, you will learn the interaction energies between two bodies while dancing, and how to understand and master it better.

Body Drumming
When we dance, we dance on the rhythm, because there is no music without rhythm. Body percussion is know for a long time, in the real world it can be found in every culture. It is called Schuhplattler in Bavaria, and gumboot dancing in South Africa.
You will learn about your body as a rhythm instrument.Get inspired to new sounds and rhythmic variations such as taps, claps, snaps, and your own voice. Ultimately this about you getting another dose of rhythm for your body, and that is what the dance about.

Blues Crash und Blues Continuation
First experiences in Blues with Andrew Twiss (USA) and Judith Estermann (CH)
To wiggle across the dance floor with your partner in tight embrace and an insinuating manner? Far from it! Blues is more than a dance for the enamored or love starved: Blues is a genre of music as well as a style of dancing, its own form of art, which is often mistaken to be unsavoury. It is a unique style of dance that is wide spread in the US, but unfortunately still rather unfamiliar in Europe. Our Blues Crash and Continuation courses offer the perfect opportunity to do away with prejudice, and to discover this beautiful style of dance for yourself, as well as to prepare yourself for the late night Blues at the party on Saturday.
For Blues Crash no prior knowledge is required, for Continuation you should have visited Blues Crash. Registration is not required. Friday and Saturday 8pm - 9.30pm.

| Workshop-Musiker |
Dave Ruosch, piano - Dani Solimine, guitar - Thomas Dürst, doublebass
Most of the awareness of a good swing musician is focused on the music and not so much on playing the instrument. When working together with dancers the visual aspect in addition becomes more important, too. These three musicians are specialized on listening to and responding subtly to the dancers. They are all enthusiastic about bringing live music into the dance workshop, discovering common themes of both dancers and musicians and creating a dialog between music and dance. Live music meets the dance, sets off inspiration and gets inspired in exchange. Three excellent sidemen will serve as the rhythm section for Steven, the dancing soloist, and the participants.
At STIR IT! 11 they will enrich Steven's lessons! |
