Workshop Klassen

Jazz’n’Groove
Jazz with Steven Mitchell.

Those who know Steven, know that he usually focuses on something in his classes - the Groove. He is able to infuse each movement with soul and to bring them musically and rhythmically onto the point. Let yourself be inspired by his enthusiasm and his inspirations and he will seduce you on a journey through his funky musicality. We promise that none of your body parts will remain in its usual place.

Classes with live music. Jazz your spirit!

Rhythm’n’Style
Intricacies from vintage Lindy clips with Joseph and Trisha.

In this class we are going to search our way back to the original rhythm and style of the Swing-era – on one hand you are going to work on one to one movements from the clips, on the other hand you will work on figures and rhythms building on them. Extract the original Lindy-styling out of genuine video clips and let it leave its marks on your individual style. Feel the craziness of the golden Jazz-era and live it in your own dancing.
Projection of vintage Lindy clips.

Style your lindy!

Rhythm’n’Spice (daily)
Thomas and Alice put a focus on discovering new rhythms in Lindy Hop, adding new interpretations and spice to their dancing.

Spice up your Lindy and get new rhythm!

Mix’n’Tricks
New inspirations for your Lindy Hop with Andrew and Evin.

A fresh mix from connection based Lindy Hop and a pinch of inspiration from other dance styles in wonderful union with the music. It is a joy to watch Andrew and Evin dancing and an even bigger joy, to dance with them and to learn from them. We are looking forward to have them introduce you to a fresh mixed Lindy Hop style.

Mix your dancing!

Groove’n’Move (daily)
Everything about dancing as a couple with Dave and Ursula.

Through intensive examination of topics such as frame, connection, stretch, etc. we maximise dancing as a couple and allow blues and jazz elements to infiltrate the dance. Deepen your connection with your partner and learn to feel your frame consciously. Use it to balance and to surf through the music together.

Groove your connection!

Tense'n'Release (daily)
New inspirations for your Lindy Hop with Delphine und Olivier.

Great Lindy dancing revolves around the constant building and releasing of muscle tension in just the right amounts. This enables a dancer to change shape for movement and also to create the power for the next movement.  This workshop will teach variations of leading and following with different levels of energy and force in order to demonstrate the concept of "tense 'n' release" in lindy hop.

Tense your connection!

Presence and timing (just once)
A playful glance at dance with Nadja Sieger.

Nadja Sieger provides us a small, handy insight into her knowledge of theatre, timing and presence, three things that fit in a playful way perfectly to Lindy Hop. Dancing is not only tecnically but also emotionally exciting, and where emotions show up there is no big hop to theatre.

Warm up touch new grounds (daily one style)
Different teachers.

During these classes we are going to find, while warming up, a new approach to our dancing by exploring other styles and techniques like Yoga, Ballet and Tai Chi. Warm up your muscles, stretch your body into the mood, and get ready for the day.

Stir your approach!

Blues Crash und Blues Continuation (one of each, all levels together, Friday Dance Hall (Dance Academy), Saturday White Hall (Volkshaus) 8.00 pm)

First experiences in Blues with Dave Madison.

To wiggle across the dance floor with your partner in tight embace and an insinuating manner? Far from it! Blues is more than a dance for the enamoured or love starved: Blues is a genre of music as well as a style of dancing, its own form of art, which is often mistaken to be unsavoury. It is a unique style of dance, that is wide spread in the US, but unfortunately still rather unfamiliar in Europe. Our Blues Crash and Continuation courses offer the perfect opportunity to do away with prejudice, and to discover this beautiful style of dance for yourself, as well as to prepare yourself for the late night Blues at the party on Saturday.

For Blues Crash no prior knowledge is required, for Continuation you should have visited Blues Crash.

Non-Workshop Class
Crash’n’Go (Saturday 8.15 pm, Volkshaus Zurich, Blue Hall)
Come to know the basics of Lindy Hop, learn how to do the basic steps. Feel the spirit of the Swing era and try your first steps on the social dance floor at the subsequent party!

No prior knowledge required.
