On a summer evening in Herräng Dance Cam the idea of initialising a lindy hop camp focusing much more on musicality and bringing in a lot of various aspects like other dancing styles, acting, culture etc. was born. A camp for dancers as well as musicians, that would feature live music in classes in order to have the possibility to work on musicality with the dancers and to awaken the musician's understanding for the dancers. We were thingking of a camp that would include lessons in basic technique of movement, of gesture and facial expression in order to explore and handle the body as an instrument in order to be free for musicality and creativity while dancing. We desired a camp in which dancers and musicians would be discovering common issues, work on them together and - last but not least - would be having lots of fun!!!
From this idea there resulted a first start: STIR IT! on Halloween 2008.
In the future we will stick to the idea of experiencing lindy hop in a wider setting and toapproach the attitude to live of the golden Swing and Jazz era. There is no lack of ideas: movie nights, sewing courses, Lindy exchange, song and lecture evenings - just to mention some.
We are really looking forward to eclectic and exciting experiences and to a powerful stirring up of our approach to lindy hop!
